What if I want to stop Methadone? Can I stop or switch to a different medication? I have heard Suboxone is effective as well. I just want to try methadone first.

If you want to stop, talk with your doctor. You can totally stop if you want to!

If you want to stop, then do it! Make sure you taper off because I hear the withdrawals are rough.

If you want to stop, taper off! You can start other medication after 24 hours of your last Methadone dose

You’ll need to tell your doctor you want to taper off. There should not be a problem with you taking any other medication but always tell a prescriber you are just coming off Methadone.
